Chinese New Year Blog Hop!
Hi and welcome to Chinese New Year Blog Hop! If you arrived from Emily's Blog, you are on the right track. If not, you can start the hop from Emily's Blog. I am so happy that you could join us. =)
The Year of the Snake officially begins on Sunday, February 10th, so be sure to wish all your Chinese friends longevity, happiness, wealth and good fortune during this two-week festival! When I was in Taiwan, we'd have a big meal with family on Chinese New Year's Eve (Feb 9th this year), after that we exchange red envelops with money. When I was a kid, that was the highlight of the whole festival since the content of the red envelops dictated how much shopping I could do during the festival! =) Now that I live in the States, hubby and I will probably have a quiet dinner with our two cat children and I'll be talking to my family on the phone to give them my greetings.
A few generous sponsors have created a few free digis especially for this blog hop and for my first card, I used images from Deasy Designs. Isn't that snake adorable? =) I arranged the lanterns, sentiment and Mr. Snake in my photo editing software, printed them on PTI's Stamper's Select White cardstock then colored them with Copic markers. It's a very simple design. The only embellishment are the washi streamers and I got the idea from this card by Lisa Spangler.
Angie Blom Designs created this darling image that I used on my second card. Fireworks and firecrackers are also a big part of the celebration for the Chinese New Year where I grew up. We usually hear it as soon as the clock struck midnight, it was said that the loud noise from the firecrackers would scare away the bad luck/spirits for the coming year.
This is once again a simple design with similar elements as my first card and also colored with Copic markers on PTI cardstock. I used a lot of red and some gold in both of my cards since both these colors gets used a lot during the festivities. They both symbolize wealth and good luck in the Chinese culture.
